Special religious education (SRE) is education in the beliefs and practices of a religion by authorised representatives of that persuasion.
Parents and carers in NSW public schools have the right to have their children receive instruction in their religious persuasion, where authorised teachers of that persuasion are available.
The decision about SRE is made by parents/carers at the time of enrolment. Parents and carers may choose an available SRE provider suitable to their needs, or they may choose for their child not to receive SRE. Students not receiving SRE will be provided with meaningful activities under the close supervision of staff during SRE time.
At Lurnea Public School, we are able to provide SRE classes in the following religious persuasions:
- Anglican
- Catholic
- Islam
SRE takes place on Wednesday at the following times:
- Early Stage 1/Stage 1 - 12:00pm - 12:30pm
- Stage 2 - 12:30pm - 1:00pm
- Stage 3 - 1:00pm - 1:30pm
Parents and carers have the right to request changes to their child's SRE arrangements in writing at any time.
