Road safety at our school

Welcome to the Lurnea Public School road safety page. The front entrance to our school is on the corner of Reilly and West Streets Lurnea. There is also a rear entrance on Facey Crescent.

Please keep in mind that all school zones have a speed limit of 40 km/hr in the mornings (8:00-9:30 AM) and afternoons (2:30-4:00 PM). The school pedestrian crossings have a recommended speed of 25km/hr.

As there are no traffic controllers in attendance at pedestrian crossings, it is important to keep a keen eye out for pedestrians - especially during the busy times before and after school.

Please support the school by obeying the signage. A "NO STOPPING" sign prohibits stopping at any time. A "NO PARKING" sign allows a driver to stop briefly (3 minutes) to pick up or set down passengers. A car that is stopped in a NO PARKING zone must not be left unattended.

Visibility is a key factor in road safety. Please avoid any behaviours that could potentially reduce visibility such as double parking or parking near corners or pedestrian crossings.

When walking with very young children, hold their hand when on the sidewalk - children can act impulsively and run onto the road.

Please use every opportunity to train young children to STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK before crossing a road.

The school driveways are set aside for the use of school staff and delivery vehicles. Please assist by not using these driveways to collect or set down children or parking across them.

Students travelling to school by bike must wear an approved helmet for riding.

Road safety is a community responsibility. We trust that you will join with us in teaching and demonstrating safe practices when driving to and from school.
